Though a very common problem, there are a lots of reasons for bad breath. The cause of persistent bad breath will often be through bacteria coating the teeth and gums, which results in smelly gases being released. Pungent foods, including garlic and onions, and smoking can also increase the severity of the problem. Illnesses, particularly those affecting the nose and stomach, can also cause bad breath.

When fragments of food get trapped between the teeth and tongue the food will rot, and an unpleasant smell will be the result. Proper and regular brushing of the teeth will ward off this problem, and ensure that your breath smells fresh. Gum disease and dental decay can be caused by bacteria being on the teeth and gums (plaque). Regular visits to your dentist can help you avoid problems with bad breath, and to treat any problems that emerge.
